Furhmann’s research on this period shows that despite their semi-colonial aspirations in West Africa, Germans took on important roles as models, instructors and supporters in the ideological and practical establishment of Turkish nationalism. The talk will discuss the collaboration between German colonialist activities with Turkish nationalists by focusing on Enver Pasha and his connections to the German military, archaeology, and economic establishments.
