OTSI is intended to nurture interest in Ottoman and Turkish studies, widely defined. It focuses on academic and cultural production about the Turkic world, the Ottoman Empire, and its successor nation-states, including, but not limited to, Turkey, the Middle East, the Balkans, and Central Asia. The goal is to eventually establish Cornell University as one of the centers for intellectual exchange on the history, culture, politics, and art of the Ottoman Empire and its successor nation-states. Ottoman and Turkish Studies Initiative (OTSI) is part of the Einaudi Center for International Studies.
